Where are my dog license card and dog tag sticker? Top
The Health Department no longer issues a printed card or a sticker. The metal tag for your dog’s collar is now the license. The Health Department also sent you a paper certificate to keep for your records.
Does my dog have to wear the license tag outdoors? Top
Yes. Dogs must wear the metal tag on their collars whenever they go outside.
What if I need to show proof that my dog has a current license? Top
Police officers and Parks Department police can look up the number on your dog’s metal tag to confirm that the license is current. If you want, you may also carry the paper certificate, or keep a copy of it on your smartphone. To download an electronic license certificate to your smartphone, visit nyc.gov/doglicense, and log into your account.
How do I download a copy of the license certificate from the dog licensing system? Top
Log into your account, and click on your dog’s name. In the Animal Detail screen, click “Print Certificate.”
Do I need to carry the certificate with me? Top
No.
What if I lose the paper certificate and need a replacement copy? Top
Call 311 to request a copy, and it will be mailed to you. If you have an online dog licensing account, you can print one yourself by going to nyc.gov/doglicense.
Should I remove my old sticker? Top
Yes. The sticker is no longer necessary.
Without the sticker, how will I know when to renew my license? Top
The Health Department will remind you by mail or email at least one month before your license expires. Failure to renew your license on time may result in fines and late fees. To confirm that your dog’s license is current, visit nyc.gov/doglicense and click “Enter Online Dog Licensing.” Enter the tag number in the “Check Dog Tag Status” box and click “Go.”
